THE PROVINCIAL government of Eastern Samar is grieving over the death of a soldier, who was among those who perished during the twin bombings in Jolo, Sulu on Monday.
Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone, in a statement on Thursday, thanked Pvt. John Rey Evardone Paller, 23, a native of Giporlos, Eastern Samar, for his service to the country.
Paller started his military service in October 2019.
“I strongly condemn the bombings in Jolo, Sulu, which killed several soldiers, including our kababayan. We reject these terroristic activities. Let's continue to work for peace in our country,” Evardone said.
Paller’s body was taken home to Parina village in Giporlos town at dawn on Wednesday, a few hours after the arrival of the flag-draped casket via a C-130 plane at the Tacloban Airport late Tuesday night.
“The family is deeply sorrowed since they never expected him to come home dead. His mother believes that God will punish those terrorists responsible for the bombings,” the Philippine Army 8th Infantry Division Civil-Military Operations said in a statement on Thursday.
The young soldier was one of at least 15 people who perished when terrorists detonated two bombs in Jolo. The attack also wounded nearly 80 individuals. (By Sarwell Meniano)
