Zambo remains under MGCQ

ZAMBOANGA CITY remains under Moderate General Community Quarantine or MGCQ until September 30 following the latest announcement by the national government’s Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases or IATF-EID.

While Zamboanga continues to control the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease or Covid-19, the local Task Force against Covid-19 headed by Mayor Beng Climaco reported a steady surge in the number of patients recovering from the respiratory disease.

More than 700 people have recovered from Covid-19 since the pandemic began in March, according to Climaco, and she largely attributed this success to hardworking medical frontliners who risk their own safety to save others from the grave.

“The steady increase in the number of recovered patients is because the hard work of the medical frontliners and all the people who risk their own life in battling this pandemic and we thanked all of them,” she said by phone from her office.

Climaco said while the active Covid-19 cases are over 400 with several dozen mortalities, and most of those who perished had underlying medical conditions.
She again urged commercial establishments to strictly adhere to health protocols and quarantine guidelines as part of preventive measures against Covid-19.

“Our Establishments Inspection Team together with personnel from DTI, DOLE and BFAR conduct regular inspections in shopping malls, canning factories and other businesses to remind and warn against non-compliance of laws. If found violating the guidelines, the establishments are issued with notice of violation and citation tickets that prescribe penalties or fines,” Climaco said.

Climaco reminded residents to wear face mask and face shield when in public places and observe physical distancing to avoid Covid-19 infection. “Also wash hands with soap and water, or sanitize them and avoid holding your eyes, mouth and ears. Please follow our quarantine guidelines,” she said.

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the IATF-EID in placing Zamboanga and the rest of the country under MGCQ.

Duterte said that aside from the National Capital Region, the provinces of Bulacan and Batangas and cities of Tacloban and Bacolod are under stricter General Community Quarantine until end of the month.

Iligan City is placed under stricter Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine to stem the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

There are over 221,000 confirmed infections throughout the country with nearly 160,000 patients recovered from the disease that had already claimed the lives of more than 3,500 since March. (Zamboanga Post)
