PAGADIAN CITY – A seven-year old girl was killed and over 2 dozen others were hurt after their truck rolled over a slope in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines, police said on Monday.
Police said the driver, Richard Espinas, lost control of the wheel while maneuvering a curve on a highway near the village of Gatas in Kalawit town and the truck rolled down about 15 meters down the slope before resting on its side. The incident occurred over the weekend.
Members of the municipal police force led by P03 Rodrigo Baquilta responded immediately to the emergency after receiving reports of the accident and rescued the victims – at least 13 of them were rushed to the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.
The 50-year old driver was among the injured and the police identified the lone fatality as Jasmin Ordaniza. The girl was among the passengers that came from a service of the Pentecostal Church in Kalawit and were heading back to Kabasalan town in neighboring Zamboanga Sibugay province when the tragedy struck.
