KIDAPAWAN CITY – Motorcycle gunmen killed the former vice governor of Sultan Kudarat province in an ambush Tuesday in the restive southern Philippine region of Mindanao.
Rolando Recinto was driving his pickup truck along the highway in Lambayong town’s Bilumin village when gunmen attacked him. Police said Recinto came all the way from Tacurong City and was on his way home.
The motive of the murder is still unknown, but his son, Francis Eric Recinto, is the town’s vice mayor, a position his father previously held.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killing which occurred a week after President Rodrigo Duterte lifted martial law in Mindanao. Recinto’s family did not give any statement to the press. (Rhoderick BeƱez)
