P6.5-M illegal cigarrete-making machines destroyed in Cauayan City

OFFICIALS OF  this city publicly destroyed P6.5-million worth of illegal cigarette-making machines in front of the city hall after their traditional flag-raising ceremony on Monday.
Cauayan City Mayor Bernard Faustino Dy said the confiscation of the four illegal tobacco-making is a manifestation that the city government does not tolerate the operations of any illegal business activity in the city.
Law enforcement agencies with the help of barangay officials in the said place conducted a raid last year which led to the seizure of the illegal cigarette-making machines, counterfeit cigarettes, raw materials, and packaging supplies used for cigarette manufacturing.
The public destruction was part of the city government's effort to remind business owners to secure the necessary permits and licenses before they can operate a business.
During month of January, business owners are required to renew their business permits while new business owners are required to apply for business permits and licenses.
Dy urged business owners to secure the necessary permits and licenses and renew annually as the city government has set up a “business one-stop-shop' inside the city hall to fasttrack the processing of permits and licenses. (By Merlito G. Edale, Jr.)
