PAGADIAN CITY – Police were
hunting down a village watchman after he stabbed a civilian who shoved him during
a routine patrol in Pagadian City in the southern Philippine province of
Zamboanga del Sur.
Police said the suspect,
Aurelio Antoy, escaped on foot after stabbing 41-year old Roldan Lumpoc in the
village of Deborok late Saturday. Antoy accosted Lumpoc and asked for his
quarantine pass, but the victim pushed the watchman instead and an altercation
ensued.
Antoy pulled a knife and
lunged at Lumpoc hitting him in the shoulder. Lumpoc managed to flee from his
attacker and sought help from neighbors who rushed to the hospital.
“This happened around 10
p.m. Investigation
disclosed the suspect was allegedly conducted roving at the vicinity of their
purok when he saw and accosted the victim outside of his residence and asked of
the latter’s quarantine pass.”
“Instead, the victim pushed the suspect which
followed with an exchanged of heated argument. In the height of their
altercation, the suspect took a hunting knife and stabbed the victim, who
sustained a lacerated wound at the back of his left shoulder,” said Major Helen Galvez, a regional police spokeswoman.
She said the police were
investigating the incident and searching for Antoy.
Pagadian City is under an
enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease. The city has at
least 245 people under monitoring, or PUMs, and 2 others under investigation or
those that show symptoms of cough, colds and fever
with a travel or contact history to countries or person that is affected with
Covid-19.
And PUMs are those with
travel and contact history to countries or person that is affected with Covid
19 but not displayed any symptoms and is advised to undergo a 14-day
self-quarantine at home to be monitored by health workers.
The Department of Health said the
country now has at least 1,075 cases of coronavirus disease with at least 68
deaths.
The virus, also called Covid-19, is now a global pandemic after it broke
out in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and quickly spread to
over 100 countries with China recording over 80,000 infections and more than 3,00
