ZAMBOANGA CITY – A local man who travelled to Malaysia
and returned home has been tested positive for the new coronavirus, or
Covid-19, and is the 4th infected with the respiratory disease in Zamboanga.
The man, Climaco said, arrived in Zamboanga City on March 5 and manifested symptoms of the disease. He was swabbed for Covid testing on March 16 and test results returned positive 19 days later. She said the patient is in stable condition and now asymptomatic.
“He is currently confined
at the Zamboanga City Medical Center and is stable and asymptomatic. He was
swabbed on March 16 for confirmatory test. And the local government was
notified of his positive result last night,” Climaco said.
Dr Dulce Amor Miravite, the City Health Officer, said they almost lost track of the missionary after he deliberately changed address and phone number, but was tracked down with his family at an apartment in San Jose Gusu.
Another local woman, who is residing and working in Manila, was also tested positive for the virus last month and under medical care, according to Dr Joshua Brillantes, assistant regional director of the Department of Health.
But latest report said the woman has been discharged from hospital after a second Covid test showed her negative for the virus.

Zamboanga
City has 3 Covid-19 patients - a 30-year old woman in Tetuan village; a 48-year old woman from Tumaga
village, and a 29-year old man from the village of Sinunuc. All are now in
hospital and in stable condition.
Also on Sunday, a 25-year old man who was suffering from fever and body malaise died in his home in the village of Recodo, prompting village chieftain Wahab Iba to cordon the man’s house fearing the death was due to Covid.
He said members of the City Health Office rushed to the area to take swab samples for Covid testing. Before the man died, he also went to a quack doctor to cure his fever instead of seeking medical help, according to Iba, adding, the man’s neighbors are now terrified that the death was caused by the virus.
Talon-Talon village chieftain Casmir Candido also cordoned off the man’s house as a precautionary measure.
Climaco appealed anew to residents to stay at home and practice frequent hand washing with soap and water and not panic. “Once again, we remind the public to please remain calm and to remain home. At this time, the best course of action is to stay home, maintain social distancing and wash your hands with soap and water more often. Please stay at home, don’t go out of the house and do not panic,” she said. (Zamboanga Post)
