ZAMBOANGA CITY – Patients with chronic diseases may now benefit from the
free transport services the local government is offering to help them in their
medical needs.
Mayor Beng Climaco turns over some 150 sets of personal protective equipment to the Zamboanga City Medical Center, including coconut ethyl sanitizers donated by the Philippine Coconut Authority for health care workers and medical frontliners. Just recently, Climaco also handed over 100 sets of personal protective equipment to the same hospital. (Bong Serondo)
Mayor Beng Climaco said the local government tapped the ALTS-Coop taxi cabs for the free transport services for patients on chemotherapy, regular dialysis and physical rehabilitation starting on April 6 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Mayor Beng Climaco said the local government tapped the ALTS-Coop taxi cabs for the free transport services for patients on chemotherapy, regular dialysis and physical rehabilitation starting on April 6 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
She said the free services will be on a first come, first served basis
due to the limited availability of taxi cabs amid the enhanced community
quarantine. Emergency cases are not included in the program, according to
Climaco.
“Included in the program are patients on chemotherapy, regular dialysis
and physical rehabilitation. Emergency cases are not included. Free transport services
will be on a first come, first served basis due to limited availability of coop
taxis,” she said.
Climaco said patients who want to avail of the program must call this
cell phone number 0909-3713257 two days before their scheduled medical appointments
and provide necessary details such as the name of patient, contact number,
pick-up point, time of medical appointment and name of hospital or clinic, and
proof of medical appointment.
This is the first time in Zamboanga that the local government will
provide free transport services to medical patients, especially for those who
rely on public transport or those who do not have vehicles at a time Zamboanga
is under quarantine due to coronavirus disease.
Health is one of Climaco’s three priorities with security and education (Because S.H.E. Cares) as her concrete foundation to better serve the people of Zamboanga. Aside from
free medical transport services, Climaco’s Largo Vida (Long Life) program also
benefits the poor and the elderly by providing the medicines, among others.
It is only during Climaco’s time that senior citizens in different
barangays are receiving the much needed attention and care.
Largo Vida is part of Climaco’s benevolent programs dedicated
to the welfare or well-being of senior citizens. It is being implemented by the
City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office and Office of
the City Mayor.
And aside from Largo Vida program, the local government also
provides cash incentives to senior citizens celebrating their birthday as
provided in a local ordinance. Considered also as the first of its kind in the
history of Zamboanga, the distribution of the cash gifts covers all the 98
barangays here. (Zamboanga Post)
