ZAMBOANGA DEL Sur will continue to be under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), further restricting the movement of residents.
Yu said in a virtual press briefing that his announcement is not an extension of executive order (EO) No. 2020-09 that he issued on March 19, “declaring the entire province under the state of calamity and enhanced community quarantine” but a continuation saying that the EO has not been lifted and it has no time frame.
Yu said the public thought that after the Holy Week and almost a month of its implementation, the ECQ will be lifted.
“I did not specify the date of expiration in the EO because the number of ‘suspected cases of COVID-19 in the province continues to surge that has alarmed public health and government officials. I want the public to be ready always since our fight against the deadly virus is not yet over,” Yu clarified.
Yu said the best way to fight the spread of COVID-19 is for everyone to practice social distancing and stay home.
In recent weeks, the municipalities of the province have closed their non-essential businesses, shopping malls, schools, public spaces and parks to curb the spread of the coronavirus. But the number of cases continues to grow that has alarmed government and public health officials.
As of April 14, the COVID-19 daily surveillance report of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has recorded 1,005 suspected cases and 28 probable cases while, three (3) patients with confirmed cases have fully recovered and were discharged from the hospital. (By Gideon C. Corgue))
