THE DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 199 new persons infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 9,684.
In its case bulletin, the DOH also reported 93 new recoveries and 14 new deaths.
The total number of recovered cases nationwide is now 1,408 while the death toll has climbed to 637.
Out of the 199 new cases, the DOH said 173 cases or 87 percent came from the National Capital Region; one case or 0.5 percent came from Regin 7 (Central Visayas) and the remaining 25 cases or 12.5 percent came from other regions.
In a Covid-19 virtual presser, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reported about 1,819 healthcare workers tested positive for Covid-19.
Of the total number, 685 are nurses, 590 are physicians or doctors, 107 are nursing assistants, 70 are medical technologists, 34 are radiologic technologists, 20 are respiratory therapists, 21 are midwives, 15 are pharmacists and 277 are other healthcare workers like dentists, barangay healthcare workers, and administrative aides.
A total of 34 healthcare workers -- 25 doctors, seven nurses, and two other healthcare workers -- died from Covid-19 while 350 healthcare workers have recovered.
