PAGADIAN
CITY – Troops clashed with communist rebels on Monday in Zamboanga del Norte’s
Siayan town, but there were no reports of casualties, officials said.
Officials
said the clash broke out in Pange village after members of the 97th and
42nd Infantry Battalions ran into a group of New People’s Army (NPA)
rebels in the area.
The
fighting lasted 45 minutes, according to Lt. Col. Manaros Boransing, commander
of the 97th Infantry Battalion, who estimated the number of gunmen
at around 40.
He
said soldiers recovered one M60 machine gun, three improvised explosives,
magazines, ammunition and medical supplies, including anti-government
propaganda. (Zamboanga Post)
