Dagupan City to do random Covid-19 testing in markets

THE CITY  government here is set to conduct random coronavirus disease (Covid-19) risk-based testing in markets starting July 1.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the city’s Public Information Office (PIO) said the testing will be done to determine persons who are Covid-19 positive to isolate them and prevent the possible spread of the virus.

The random testing will be done on vendors, freighters, delivery, and servicemen, and even market-goers in Malimgas, Makong, New Galvan, and Magsaysay, the PIO said.

It added that Mayor Marc Brian Lim suggested the need for continuous epidemiological testing in the city, especially in places where people flock.

In March, the city began its rapid-testing for medical front-liners and in places with confirmed Covid-19 cases.

About 1,500 city front-liners underwent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing, where 14 persons were positive as of April.

As of this posting, the city continues to do its risk-based testing, which now includes front-liners in private establishments, and other high-risk persons living in the city.

Dagupan City has 27 confirmed Covid-19 cases, three of which are currently admitted to the Region 1 Medical Center. The three are all asymptomatic. (By Ahikam Pasion)
