Stakeholders’ support vital in preparations for new normal: DepEd

THE SUPPORT  of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, local government units (LGUs), and non-government organizations (NGOs) have been vital in the preparation for the opening of classes under a new normal in August.

"We are highly indebted to our partners and leaders who are with us in ensuring the safety of our learners, teachers, and parents in these difficult times," the DepEd said in a statement.
In the first two weeks of the enrolment period, more than 10 million learners nationwide have registered remotely and more are expected to enroll in the next few days, it added.
The coronavirus has forced a shift in the delivery of classes. Since the enhanced community quarantine due to the pandemic disrupted face-to-face classes, some schools used the online learning platform DepEd Commons.
Not all learners though have online access. With the help of the private sector, the department has been preparing and updating learning delivery modes as classes begin in two months.
"We are working closely with our LGUs in the proper deployment of learning resources. Along this line, we are also setting up policies and guidelines to further protect the safety and health of our learners and teachers," the DepEd statement read.
The department is looking at a variety of learning delivery options and materials -- online, printed, and digital and its field units will decide which mode is appropriate for learners in their areas.
Earlier, Education Secretary Leonor Briones appealed to Duterte to allow the department to continue its preparations for the new school year based on their road map, targeting August 24 as the opening of classes.
