THE POLICE Regional Office in Caraga Region (PRO-13) formally received the 200 new members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) this week.
In a statement Thursday (July 2), Maj. Renel E. Serrano, PRO-13 public information officer, said the new recruits comprised of 170 males and 30 females took their oath on Wednesday (July 1.
“The 200 youngest members of PRO-13 took their oath without their loved ones due to the health protocols being implemented against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19),” Serrano said, adding the activity was presided over by PRO-13 director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr.
In his message, Esquivel challenged the new recruits to be "true to the noble calling of the PNP, which is to serve God, the country, and the family."
Serrano said that the 200 recruits were among the 800 applicants who hurdled the stringent screening and tests required before one can be admitted to the PNP organization.
Esquivel urged the new recruits to treat their profession as a vocation.
He said: “You now officially belong to the special breed of men and women in the noble profession of law enforcement. Therefore, do not let anyone and anything stain or destroy your name, as you work in the organization."
Serrano said the new recruits will undergo six months of rigorous training at the Regional Training Center 13 in Barangay Lipata, Surigao City, after their rapid testing for Covid-19.
The new police personnel will start to receive a monthly basic salary of PHP29,668.
“After the six-month training, they will undergo another six months of field training program or immersion in different police stations prior to deployment to their assignments,” Serrano said.
During the oath-taking ceremony, the new recruits listened to the online message of PNP chief Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, who emphasized that the police service was about saving lives, helping people make better choices, and becoming problem solvers. (By Alexander Lopez)
