QEZON CITY Mayor Joy Belmonte has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), she confirmed Wednesday.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako na agad itong natuklasan. Sa ngayon, maayos po ang aking kalagayan at wala po akong nararamdamang anumang sintomas (I am thankful that it was diagnosed early. For now, I feel okay and I do not feel any of the symptoms)," Belmonte said in a statement.
Belmonte, meanwhile, assured all QC residents that she will continue to monitor all activities and that they will carry on with all the services being provided by the local government to all its constituents.
“Makasisiguro po kayo na patuloy ang serbisyo at gawain ng inyong lokal na pamahalaan sa kabila ng aking pag-quarantine. Bagama't limitado ang aking pagkilos, mananatili po akong nakatutok sa kalagayan at pangangailangan ng buong Quezon City (You can count on continuous services from your local government even if I am undergoing quarantine. My movements may be limited but I will continue to monitor the state and the needs of the whole Quezon City)," she said.
In the meantime, the QC Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QC-ESU) already started with their contact tracing procedures.
The office of the mayor is also temporarily closed for thorough disinfection, which will include all the common areas of the Quezon City Hall.
Belmonte said they were not surprised upon learning about the test result as they were expecting this to happen.
“Dahil sa pagdalaw sa ating mga health center at ospital, special concern lockdown areas at mga komunidad upang alamin ang kanilang mga pangangailangan, sa simula pa lang batid na naming posibleng mangyari ito. Pero hindi ko po ito pinagsisisihan. Inihanda ko na po ang aking sarili at buong puso ko po itong tinatanggap (Because we visited health centers, hospitals, and special concern lockdown areas to know their actual situation, we already know from the very start of this possibility. But I have no regrets. I have prepared myself and accepts this wholeheartedly),” Belmonte said.
She said this happened despite following all the imposed health protocols.
Belmonte added that her Covid-19 test results only prove that the disease may infect anyone, thus extreme caution should be properly observed by everyone.
“Nangyari po ito sa kabila ng aking ibayong pag-iingat, pagsusuot ng face mask, madalas na paghugas ng kamay at social distancing. Kaya sana ay magsilbi itong paalala na ang Covid-19 ay tunay na isang kakaibang sakit na dapat pag-ingatan pa nang lubusan (This happened despite taking all the precautions like wearing of face masks, frequent handwashing, and safe physical distancing. This should serve as a reminder to everyone that Covid-19 is a strange disease and that all of us should take care of ourselves)," she said. (By Marita Moaje)
