THE QUIEZON City Police District (QCPD) on Tuesday said it has sued seven suspects over the killing of National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) chief Roland Cortez last July.
In a press briefing, QCPD director, Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo said three of the suspects were NCMH officials -- Clarita Avila, Chief Administrative Support Service of the NCMH; Harly Pagarian and George Serrano-- while the four others were identified as Sonny Mitra Sandicho, Edison Riego, Maria Christina dela Cruz, and Albert Eugenio alias Robert Eugenio.
Only Eugenio was so far arrested among the seven suspects.
Montejo said the QCPD had filed two counts of murder against seven suspects involved in the shooting to death of Cortez and his driver Ernesto dela Cruz along Cassanova Drive corner Tandang Sora Ave. in Barangay Culiat last July 27.
Montejo said two counts of murder were filed directly before the QC Prosecutor’s Office against the suspects and several other John Does.
He said based on pieces of evidence gathered by police investigators from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) headed by Maj. Elmer Monsalve, the case was filed against the suspects.
Monsalve said the victim's fight against corruption was the motive for the killing.
Cortez had been implementing reforms in the NCMH which resulted in a probe by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the hospital where Avila was charged.
"Dahil doon sa reform na yun meron siyang mga nakita na mga anomaly at doon na na-expose 'yung mga anomaly sa loob ng NCMH (Because of the reforms he initiated and his discovery of anomalies in the NCMH, it was exposed]," Montejo said.
Montejo said with the filing of the case against the suspects, the case is considered solved. (PNA)
