Nearly P14-M shabu seized, 'courier' shot dead in NegOr town

JOINT OPERATIVES from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Negros Oriental have seized almost PHP14 million of suspected shabu from an alleged drug courier who was killed during an anti-illegal drug operation in Sibulan town.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Joemarie Yonco Manayon, a resident of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. The police said the suspect transacted 25 grams of shabu with undercover operatives on Sunday in a buy-bust operation at the diversion road in Barangay Magatas, Sibulan.

The law enforcers have confiscated an estimated two kilos of suspected shabu with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of PHP13.7 million.

A report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) late Sunday afternoon said that the suspect was the subject of a “discreet surveillance” following information from a reliable source that he was involved in the illegal drug trade and would be transporting “shabu” to Negros Oriental soon.

During the operation, the police reported the suspect sensed that he was transacting with an undercover agent and pulled out a gun and open-fired, prompting operatives to fire back at the suspect, causing his death.

The police said a .45-caliber pistol was recovered from the suspect who was identified as a “high-value individual” in the database of suspected drug personalities. (By Mary Judaline Partlow)
