SUNDAY REFLECTION by Mayor Beng Climaco

Grandparents Sunday!

SIRACH 28:7 - God overlooks offense. Matthew 18:35 - Jesus added, “So will my Heavenly Father do with you, unless you sincerely forgive your brothers and sisters.”

Mayor Beng Climaco and First Gentleman Trifonio Salazar during their virtual conversation
with loved ones.

Msgr. (Crisologo) Manongas spoke of God’s UNLI- MERCY! Unlimited forgiveness by God should move us from our pain by letting go of our grudges and only by God’s grace, be ready to forgive those who have caused us so much hurt. Mas duele si aquellos conocido kita amo el ta causa con el dolor na de aton corazon.

It’s God’s way - He was innocently accused and tortured, crucified and died, all for the love of us. I bear the pain of collective hurts and ask: cosa ba yo ya culpa kanila? When I look at Jesus, I realize that He who was innocent suffered greatly from injustice, I too must follow him. To forgive beyond grudges and hurt, and to forgive and love desde corazon! This is a journey of healing that God provides if we are open to let go of all the burden.

(Just a while ago,) we got a very important greeting from our Apos, Tania and Tonito, a HAPPY GRANDPARENTS DAY! The little ones bring unexpected joy in our hearts!

Today, the Garcia family honors our Tito Julianing, who turns, with God’s grace, 99 years old. With our Tito Ben, Tito Julianing, who is a doctor, came to Zamboanga and followed by my Mom, who was an optometrist. They built their families here and learned Chavacano. In this new normal, we have great limitations and stayed at home for our Zoom party.

We offered a thanksgiving mass at St. Joseph Church where they used to attend services during pre-Covid with our dear Tita Nene who introduced me to the Novena to St. Joseph for a good husband. (Keep praying for those searching because God makes way)

By noon, the family gathered in different time zones, the rest almost midnight. We said a prayer and in our own party hats and cakes, we sang Happy Birthday. The grand children and great grandchildren greeted their Lolo.

Simply a blessed event to see our Tita and Tito both in their 90s partaking of the birthday meals with loved ones gathered virtually. All are blessings with friends also sharing a video message. We still seek Dr. Garcia’s advices and he still provides medicines to cure us with God’s grace.

Happy 99th Birthday dear Tito! He is a father to us. His other sibling is my Ninang who took care of us in New Jersey. Thanks to Arlene and Peter who set up the zoom session. May families adjust to a new normal of safe celebrations which bring us together despite of the distance! Gracias a Dios y abrazos de La Virgen Maria y San Jose! Bendiciones a todos Abuelos y Abuelas! Lolos and Lolas!
