CEBU PROVINCE proves to be a place which has stayed in the heart and mind of travelers when travel itself began to be out of reach in 2020 in the face of a pandemic.
Cebu and the Visayas topped in 2020 Readers’ Choice survey for
best islands in the Asian Region by the international travel magazine “Conde
Nast Traveler.” A photo of the prestigious magazine was posted on his Facebook
page by Regional Director Shalimar Hofer Tamano, of the Department of Tourism.
Cebu and the Visayas beat Sri Lanka, Ko Pha Ngan in Thailand,
Palawan, Philippines; and Siargao, Philippines. “Conde Nast Traveler proclaims
Cebu & Visayas number one. Congrats!” Tamano said in his post.
Cebu, Boracay and Palawan already took spots in the past Readers’
Choice surveys, but this is the first time that Cebu and the Visayas took the
plum.
Cebu and the Visayas have been voted best in Asia with a score of
95.83 percent, Sri Lanka at 95.45%, Ko Pha Ngan in Thailand with 95.30%, Palawan
with 95.22% and Siargao at 95.19% as shown by the November 2020 issue of the
said magazine citing 600,000 survey respondents worldwide.
The survey ranked the 35 best islands in the world outside the
United States from far-flung stunners in Southeast Asia to volcanic outcrops in
the Mediterranean.
For its 33rd annual survey this year, the choices are done by
region: Best of Asia, Best of Australia and the South Pacific, Best of the
Caribbean and the Atlantic, Best of Europe, Best of North America, and Best of
the Rest in the World.
