Zamboanga market to have new sewage treatment plant

THE LOCAL government is finalizing details for the construction of a sewage treatment plant for the public market in downtown Zamboanga.

Part of the funds for the project came from the National Sewerage and Septage Management Program (NSSMP) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), according to Mayor Beng Climaco.

Climaco recently met with representatives from the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) and DPWH to finalize details of the P120-million project. She said P77 million of the entire amount was a grant from NSSMP and the rest shall be shouldered by the ZCWD with the local government providing the area for the project.

The sewage treatment plant will replace the outdated facilities of the ZCWD.

Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from wastewater. Physical, chemical, and biological processes are used to remove contaminants and produce treated wastewater that is safe enough for release into the environment. (Zamboanga Post)
