Senator Gatchalian visits Sulu, gives aid to families. victims of terror attacks

SULU – Governor Toto Tan and other provincial and municipal officials thanked Senator Sherwin Gatchalian who flew to the southern Sulu province on Sunday and distributed financial aid to the victims of twin suicide attacks in August.

Tan and Jolo Mayor Kerkhar Tan and other government and security officials met Gatchalian at the airport. Gatchalian - who followed strict quarantine protocols - proceeded to the Provincial Capitol where a huge welcome tarpaulin with his photo was hanged.



He and Tan together with government and military officials held a meeting and later on attended a conference with families of the terror attacks who were given financial assistance, and other stakeholders.

The Manila Times also reported that Gathalian extended over P2 million worth of financial aid to the families of the civilians and uniformed personnel who died or were injured in bombing incidents in Jolo. 

The families of nine government troopers killed each received P50,000 while the families of the six slain civilians got P20,000 each. A total of 24 injured members of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army each received P30,000 as financial aid while Gatchalian also handed over P10,000 each for the 54 injured civilians. 

The Joint Task Force Sulu of the Philippine Army also received P200,000 plus 10,000 pieces of face masks from Gatchalian.





 


Tan handed Gatchalian a native hut as a token of appreciation for visiting Sulu and helping families of blast victims. The vice governor expressed his gratitude to Gatchalian for his concern to the Tausugs.

 

Gatchalian said while human lives were tragically taken by the unfortunate incident are irreplaceable, he felt it is his duty to help in any way he can and sympathize with the victims who were injured and the families they left behind. (Mindanao Examiner)
