OFW who fell from Saudi building now recovering

THE OVERSEAS  Filipino worker who reportedly fell off a building in Saudi Arabia is now recovering, an official of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Monday.

“At first her condition was severe but according to a follow-up report from the Labatt (Labor Attache) in Jeddah, he was able to talk to our OFW and she’s getting better,” International Labor Affairs Bureau (ILAB) director Alice Visperas said in a virtual presser.

She added that the company of the OFW identified as Jennette Calayag promised to shoulder her hospitalization.

At the same time, she said the Philippine embassy in the host country is also conducting its own investigation on the incident.

“Our embassy, which has jurisdiction in this case is conducting their own investigation on the case to really know what really happened and if there is foul play, justice will be given to our fellow Filipino,” Visperas added.

She said the government is ready to help Calayag.

“Our Welfare Officer is visiting her and checking on her condition at the hospital...if ever she needs any assistance we are ready to provide (her) medical and financial aid,” the ILAB director added.

Last week, Calayag, who works as a cleaner, suffered injuries after she fell off the fourth floor of a building in the kingdom. (By Ferdinand Patinio)
