THE NATIONAL government said it would provide ample supply of Covid-19 vaccines to Cebu City.
This was the assurance made by Carlito Galvez, the government’s
so-called vaccine czar, to Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella.
Labella said he was assured by Galvez who is now negotiating with
various vaccine manufacturers, including China’s Sinovac. Galvez said they will
allocate only a portion of the vaccines to each local government due to limited
budget.
Cebu City has allotted some P500 million out of the unspent
portion of its P3.2-billion Covid-19 funds for the purchase of the vaccines.
Labella said Galvez claimed that a tripartite memorandum of
agreement could be signed between the city government, national government and
the pharmaceutical company that will be chosen to supply the vaccines.
Aside from Sinovac, the government is looking to purchase vaccines
from pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and AstraZeneca. (Cebu Examiner and PNA)
