THE BUREAU of Customs (BOC) reported on Wednesday the seizure of misdeclared agricultural products worth PHP9.3 million at the Port of Subic.
In a statement, District Collector Maritess Martin said a shipment declared as frozen jams arrived at the port on November 22 from China.
The shipments were consigned to Zhenpin Consumer Goods Trading. They were alerted on November 27.
The BOC, together with the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, National Bureau of Investigation, and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority conducted an examination on the containers.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the shipments were misdeclared and contained fresh carrots and broccoli.
Shipments were subsequently seized in violation of Section 1113 (f) in relation to Section 1400 of the Republic Act No. 10863 otherwise known as the CMTA and Department of Agriculture Circular No. 04 series of 2006.
The bureau is set to conduct a hearing within the week to probe the incident. (By Ferdinand Patinio)
