DAVAO CITY Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio bared during her April 12 radio guesting that she is thinking of balancing the provisions of the 24-hour liquor ban with public health standards and the wishes of people to buy liquor, alongside the consideration for businesses involved in the liquor industry.
(One of the things we are thinking is how we will cater to people who want to buy liquor without gathering and the businessmen can conduct their business especially in the liquor industry. That is what we are thinking on how to balance),” Mayor Duterte said during the April 12 radio program at Davao City Disaster Radio.
The Mayor said people do not see the rationale for the liquor ban. That people would gather if they can buy liquor at neighborhood stores (sari-sari).
“100 percent sure jud na (that’s 100 percent sure)” the Mayor said of chances that people will gather if liquor will be sold again.
She said its human nature that people will invite friends to share drinks.
“Kung magtapok ang tawo, maganahan ang COVID, (if people gather, COVID will like it),” she said.
The Mayor added that based on cases, there were COVID positive patients whose exposure were from social gatherings with alcohol and liquor.
Despite voicing her thoughts on creating a balance with the liquor ban, the Mayor said the current 24-hour liquor ban stays until April 30.(By Rudolph Ian Alama)
