Security forces double efforts to prevent illegal entrants

GOVERNMENT FORCES have doubled their efforts in securing Zamboanga from people who continue to sneak into the city without negative RT-PCR test results which is required by the local Covid-19 task force.

A photo released by the 74th Infantry Battalion shows nearly 2 dozen  boat passengers intercepted while sneaking into Zamboanga City.

Just recently, soldiers from the 74th Infantry Battalion under Lt. Col. Julius Villena, intercepted nearly two dozen boat passengers in Tictapul. Some of them natives of Basilan and the others were from Tungawan town in the neighboring province of Zamboanga Sibugay.

At least 17 people from Surigao were also intercepted this month in Zamboanga City on their way to Sulu province to work. One of them was positive for Covid-19, but the group escaped and Mayor Beng Climaco ordered the police and military to search for them.

The group was later tracked down to the island town of Lugus. This was also confirmed to the mayor by Zamboanga City police chief Colonel Rexmel Reyes and Joint Task Force Zamboanga commander Colonel Randolph Rojas who said the men escaped to Sulu on a motorboat.

The local government coordinated with the Sulu Covid-19 task force and informed it that one of the workers was carrying the virus and may have infected the others.

Climaco praised security forces and residents for their vigilance and told policemen and soldiers to strictly deny people entering Zamboanga without the negative RT-PCR test result. (Zamboanga Post)
