5 remote villages in Maguindanao town get rescue vehicles

FIVE FAR -flung villages of Upi, Maguindanao received rescue vehicles from their municipality.

Mayor Ramon Piang turned over on Friday the rescue vehicles to the villages of Kiga, Ranao Pilayan, Bayabas, Kabakaba, and Ganasi in a simple ceremony at the town gymnasium.

“The vehicles are very much needed by the selected barangays in times of emergencies considering their distance from the town proper,” he said in a media statement.
The rescue vehicles, worth PHP250,000 each, were procured through the disaster risk reduction and management fund of the town.

Upi is a first-class municipality in the northern part of Maguindanao with agriculture as its main source of livelihood.

A mixture of Christians, Muslims, and Teduray indigenous settlers are peacefully coexisting in the area. (Noel Punzalan)
