Travellers required to undergo RT-PCR test

THE CITY government of Mandaue has required inbound travellers RT-PCR negative test results following the rising cases of Covid-19 and the rapid spread in the country of the Delta variant which was first detected in India and has now spread around the world.

Mayor Jonas Cortes said previously issued an executive order requiring RT-PCR test from all visitors coming from the provinces of Bohol, Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental. The order requires all persons from those provinces who will visit Mandaue to present a negative test result taken within 72 hours, or a negative rapid antigen test result taken 48 hours before departure from their place of origin.

Cortes underscored the need for stricter health protocols to protect the city and its residents from Covid-19. “There’s a need to expand (the executive order) because of the rise in (Covid-19) cases, not only in Bohol and Negros. We have to be extra careful right now,” Cortes said, adding, the city’s Covid-19 isolation area is almost full and the occupancy rate in hospitals is also increasing.

Data released by the Department of Health showed that Mandaue City has more than 500 active Covid-19 cases.

Cortes urged his constituents to do their part in the city’s quest to bring down the number of Covid-19 infections by strictly following the health protocols even in their homes and workplaces. He renewed calls for residents to get vaccinated against Covid-19. (John Rey Saavedra)
