Vax card to serve as pass in markets

LAPU-LAPU Mayor Junard Chan has issued an executive order requiring local residents to present their vaccination card upon entering public and private markets, and other establishments.

Chan said the Executive Order 2021-040 will take effect on August 25. He said the order is meant to entice residents to get inoculated against the deadly Covid-19 respiratory disease. He said the city has a low vaccination turnout and there is a need to bolster efforts to reach the 70% herd immunity among the population.

The city is under the modified general community quarantine classification until August 25. “We will wait until August 25. Let’s balance the number of our residents who will get vaccinated. Let's wait and see, it’s not yet final as we will evaluate the turnout in our vaccination centers,” Chan said.

He appealed to residents to cooperate with the City Government in following the health protocols such as the wearing of face masks and face shields in public places and frequent hand washing in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Since the start of the pandemic, we have had nothing to think of except the welfare of our people. We don’t want anything else to happen but to provide protection to the Oponganons (residents of Lapu-Lapu City). So much for my concern that this week, the Covid-19 cases are seriously high,” Chan said. (John Rey Saavedra)
