Police
Brig. Gen. Remus Medina, chief of the Drug Enforcement Group, said the weekend fighting
killed Hari Man bin Sabtula, a native of Sabah; and Nadzmil Ladja, a resident
of Sitangaki town in Tawi-Tawi; after they resisted arrest and engaged the
policemen and soldiers in a gun fight in Pahut village in the capital town of
Bongao.
He
said they recovered from the operation some 1.5 kilos of crystal meth and marijuana
worth nearly P11 million and two .45-caliber pistols and identification cards
of the slain dealers, including their speedboat.
National
Police Chief General Guillermo Eleazar, also quoted Medina’s report, saying “the
shootout erupted when the police-military team was effecting the arrest of the
two suspects for alleged drug trafficking during a sting operation.”
“Anti-illegal
drugs operations will continue without let-up even as the PNP remains
preoccupied with law enforcement and public safety duties in response to the Covid-19
health crisis, and general anti-criminality and internal security operations,” he
said.
The Malaysian Embassy has not issued any statement on the slaying of Hari and his involvement in the illegal drug trade or whether he smuggled the crystal meth into Tawi-Tawi from Sabah which is just several hours by boat from the Malaysian state. (Mindanao Examiner)
