Over 5,000 take NAPOLCOM exams in Sulu

SULU - Over 5,000 people took the three-day police entrance and promotional examinations in the southern Philippine province of Sulu, Gov. Sakur Tan said Monday.

Tan said the examinations which were held in several batches ended on Sunday. He thanked the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) for holding the examinations in the province.

“I would like to thank all of you for your service to the people of Sulu. Maraming Salamat sa inyong sakripisyo, Sana maulit pa ito. Malaking bagay ang ginawa ninyo para sa amin mahigit five thousand ang binigyan niyo ng oportunidad na maging pulis,” Tan told lawyer Esmael Panda, the NAPOLCOM assistant regional director.

More than 5,000 locals took the police examination and over 500 policemen have taken the promotional examination held at the Sulu National High School and the Mindanao State University.

Panda also praised Tan for the support of the provincial government in holding the simultaneous examinations. “Thank you Sir (Tan) for your hospitality and generous accommodation to our team,” he said, adding the entrance and promotional examinations were the first in the country. “Hindi pa po ito nagawa sa buong Pilipinas.”

Tan is the biggest supporter of the police and military in Sulu, and has even donated five hectares of land for the construction of a police headquarters in Maimbung town. He also lauded police forces and soldiers for their hardwork in securing the peace in Sulu, one of five provinces under the Muslim autonomous region.

“Our governance is dependent on the police organization doing its function,” he said.

The provincial government has been the top provider of logistical and other financial support to the police forces in Sulu. (Mindanao Examiner)
