Maimbung residents praise hardworking mayor

SULU – Residents of the historic town of Maimbung continue to praise the local government for greatly improving the once-sleepy municipality home to the sultanate of Sulu in southern Philippines.

Municipal government photos show the newly-remodeled public market.

Just this week, the municipal government inaugurated the newly-remodeled public market.  Now, the dry section of the market is re-designed to be a convenient place for providing local residents and neighboring municipalities access to fresh and healthy foods available in town.

Local market business owners and stall holders lauded and thanked Mayor Shihla Hayudini for further improving the market. Hayudini said she envisions the refurbished public market to be the cleanest in Sulu, one of five provinces under the Muslim autonomous region.

Maimbung has improved a lot in terms of trade and commerce and largely due to the many infrastructure projects initiated by Hayudini’s predecessor Samier Tan, who is now Sulu’s congressman.

Both Tan and Hayudini are recipients of various awards and commendations due to their hard work and honest governance that largely benefitted the locals.

Hayudini is also the brainchild of the “clean and green” program called ProtekTulong sa Kapaligiran in all the town’s 27 villages. Two years since it was launched, government officials and residents never fail to clean their villages every weekend and even doubled their efforts at the start of the Covid pandemic. The program was eventually adapted in other towns.

The municipal government was also awarded the “Ideal Functionality Rating” during the recently concluded “2021 Local Government Functionality Appraisal.” Last year, Maimbung also won the same award.

The local government achieved excellence when it topped the seven elements of functionality assessment. Hayudini said this distinction is an additional impetus for Maimbung to tirelessly continue providing the best services at its disposal to cater to the needs of the constituents even under trying times and circumstances.
