Army jeep flees after ramming motorcycle, killing boy

PAGADIAN CITY – Police were searching for the driver of an army jeep who rammed a motorcycle carrying four people and killed a three-year old boy in Zamboanga del Sur’s Guipos town.

Police said the driver fled after the weekend accident and left behind the victims along the highway. Rescuers brought the victims to the hospital, but the boy was already dead from severe injuries in the body.

“The army jeep immediately fled after the incident heading towards San Miguel Municipality leaving the injured passengers. PNP personnel of Guipos Municipal Police Station in coordination with nearby police stations conducted thorough investigation to identify, locate and arrest the fleeing suspects/driver of said army jeep,” said Maj. Shellamie Chang, a regional police spokesperson.

Chang said the motorcycle was being driven by the boy’s father, Tirso Alferez, 31; who was heading home with his four-year old son and sister-in-law, Madeline Sanchez, 33 when the jeep hit them. “The three- year old minor was pronounced dead by the attending physician while the other four-year old boy and the woman are still confined at the hospital,” she said.

It was unknown what unit the jeep belongs, but the 1st Infantry Division has jurisdiction over the Zamboanga Peninsula region, Basilan and Sulu provinces. (Mindanao Examiner)
