PRESIDENT DUTERTE has been tested negative for the deadly respiratory disease after being exposed to a household staff at the Palace who is positive for Covid-19.
The Palace has confirmed this and said the 76-year old
Duterte is now under quarantine despite being tested negative for the virus.
“The Palace confirms that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was
recently exposed to household staff who tested positive for Covid-19. The
President has since been tested for Covid-19, and while the results of the test
came back negative, he is currently observing mandatory quarantine protocols.”
“The Chief Executive continues to work while in quarantine,
and is in constant communication with the members of the Cabinet in order to
ensure that urgent matters are addressed, and to monitor the implementation of
his directives, particularly with regard to the government’s Covid-19
response,” the Palace said.
No other details were released by the Palace about his
health condition, but Duterte has
previously said he used to take fentanyl to relieve pain because of a spinal
injury caused by motorcycle accidents when he was younger.
He also admitted in
the past to using marijuana to
keep him awake because of his hectic schedule. Duterte also
suffers from headaches and Buerger’s
disease, also
known as thromboangiitis
obliterans, which is
characterized by inflammation of blood vessels.
The
exact cause of Buerger’s disease is unknown, however tobacco use is strongly
linked to its development. Researchers believe that chemicals in tobacco
may irritate the lining of the blood vessels, causing them to swell. (Mindanao
