THE DEPARTMENT of the Interior and Local Government has again awarded Mayor Beng Climaco for her exemplary performance as chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council the past six years.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año sent the award through DILG Regional Director Faizal Abutazil for a “job well done” after the first quarter meeting of the RPOC-9 in Zamboanga City.
Climaco thanked Año and Abutazil for the appreciation of her strong leadership as she also expressed gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte for the trust and confidence in appointing her as chairwoman of RPOC-9.
The RPOC plays a vital role in maintaining peace and order in the region as it is tasked to formulate plans and recommend such measures which will improve or enhance peace and order and public safety in its area of responsibility.
During the meeting, Climaco authored and passed a resolution which seeks for the designation of special lawyers that would render free legal services to law enforcers - members of the Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency - involved in the government’s anti-drug campaign.
She said most anti-drug enforcers are often exposed to charges while in line of duty, adding the PNP and PDEA should designate their own lawyers, who would provide free legal assistance to enforcers facing charges in line of duty. This, she added, is in full accord to President Rodrigo Duterte’s public statement to the anti-drug enforcers: “Ako ang bahala.”
Climaco also commended the PNP and PDEA, and other law enforcement agencies and even the military’s support, for the successful anti-drug campaign not only in Zamboanga City, but the entire region as well. (Zamboanga Post)
