ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police seized at least 10 high powered weapons from the house of a politician in Tawi-Tawi’s Sapa town after a huge number of people were spotted in the area on the eve of Election Day.
Police said the men scampered in different directions when security forces arrived and managed to seize the weapons, including assorted knives and machetes and a baseball bat.
Maj. Winston Botengan, the town’s police chief, said they responded to reports about the presence of about 150 people staying at the residence of a local candidate in the village of Banaran. He did not identify the politician, saying the police are now conducting a thorough investigation.
Brig. Gen Arthur Cabalona, the regional police director, has urged the residents to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station. (Mindanao Examiner)
