ZAMBOANGA CITY – Security forces captured a local ISIS recruiter who is also behind the smuggling of weapons to Zamboanga del Norte province, police said Wednesday.
Police said Abdul Salikala was captured by police and military forces during a joint counter-terrorism operation late Tuesday afternoon in the village of Libertad in Zamboanga Sibugay’s Tungawan town.
Maj. Shellamie Chang, a regional police spokeswoman, said Salikala is wanted by the police in Zamboanga City and is facing murder charges. “The arrested person has a standing warrant of arrest with criminal case no. 25665-66 for murder issued by Honorable Peter Eisma, Presiding Judge of RTC9, Branch 15, in Zamboanga City on June 28, 2011,” she said.
“He was also monitored recruiting both male and female individuals to be part of the IS/Daesh in Siocon town (in Zamboanga del Norte) and is now under the custody of the CIDG-ZSFU (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Zamboanga Sibugay Field Office) for documentation and proper disposition.
No other details were made available by the police on Salikala’s activities or whether he was planning an attack or had been involved in terrorism or a member of the Dawlah Islamiya, the local ISIS group in the South, blamed for the spate of bombings in the restive region. (Mindanao Examiner)
