PAGADIAN CITY - Police were searching for the shooter of an election officer who was killed in an attack in Zamboanga del Norte’s Piñan, officials said Friday.
Officials said the gunman escaped on a motorcycle driven by his cohort after shooting the 45-year old Maricel Peralta who was driving a car with her assistant Maritess Inding at a bridge in Mutia town late Thursday.
Inding, 52, was unhurt from the shooting, according to Maj. Shellamie Chang, a regional police spokesperson. “The unidentified motorcycle riding suspects approached the car from behind and then shot the driver side hitting Peralta which resulted in her instantaneous death, while Inding was fortunately unharmed.”
Chang said police investigators also recovered spent shells from a 9mm pistol. “The police are investigating the case,” she said.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killing and police would not say if the attack was politically motivated or not until the investigation is completed. (Mindanao Examiner)
