ZAMBOANGA CITY – An Abu Sayyaf terrorist allegedly working for the military was slain after he killed a government soldier and two civilians at an army post in Sumisip town in the restive Muslim province of Basilan.
Nur or Nuri Ismael escaped after the shooting, but was later killed by pursuing soldiers. The Western Mindanao Command and the 1st Infantry Division have not released the reports of the incident which occurred either on Monday or Tuesday.
It was unclear whether Ismael was a double spy or not or what triggered him to go on rampage. There were little details of the incident.
The military is using former Abu Sayyaf fighters or those who surrendered to the government, to convince others to return to the fold of the law. Other terrorists end up as so-called “military assets” and help security forces track down and even fight alongside soldiers against the Abu Sayyaf. (Mindanao Examiner)
