ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police were hunting down a man who shot and wounded a construction worker here.
Police
said the 53-year old Romiliano Dela Rosa was working at the Astoria Regency
Hotel in the village of Pasonanca when a neighbor Jose Ignacio Lacastesantos
shouted at him and complained about the noise and falling debris.
Lacastesantos
then went back inside his house and returned with a gun and shot a group of
workers hitting Dela Rosa. The shooter then escaped.
Police
said the incident occurred on Friday evening, October 21.
“Investigation
disclosed that prior to the incident, the victim together with his companions
were working inside the Astoria Regency and suddenly the suspect was shouting
at them and complaining about the noise they create while working and the
debris that were falling on his house,” said Maj. Shellamie Chang, the regional
police spokeswoman.
“Suspect
entered his house and as he came back, he was already carrying a firearm of
undetermined caliber and without provocation fired his gun at the workers and
hit the victim’s back,” she added.
Chang said
the wounded victim reported the shooting to the police and was rushed to the
hospital.
“The
victim then proceeded to Zamboanga City Police Station 7 and reported the
incident and subsequently brought to Zamboanga City Medical Center for medical
attention while the suspect fled towards Upper Pasonanca direction after the
incident. Personnel of Zamboanga City Police Station 7 are presently conducting
a hot-pursuit operation for the arrest of the identified suspect,” she said.
