ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two foreign vessels have rescued seven Malaysian and three Filipinos drifting at sea off the southern Philippine province of Tawi-Tawi, the military said Monday.

The Western Mindanao Command said a Liberian bulk carrier M/V Falcon Triumph and a Panamanian oil tanker M/V High Adventure rescued over the weekend seven Malaysian and a Filipino crew members of the ill-fated oil tanker M/V Belait Surita; and two other Filipinos of motorized boat drifting at sea. It said one crewman is reported missing. The identities of the rescued Malaysians and Filipinos were not made public by the military.
According to Brig. Gen. Romeo Racadio, commander of Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi, said the M/V Belait Surita was heading to Sandakan in Malaysia when an explosion occurred in the ship. The Philippine Navy fetched the rescued Malaysians and the Filipinos. No other details were made available by the military. (Mindanao Examiner)
