PAGADIAN CITY - A gunman who shot and killed a circus employee was beaten to death by an angry mob in Pagadian City in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur, police said Friday.
Police said the 44-year old suspect, Lumamba Aliyon Bundas, was caught by the mob trying to escape after fatally shooting Niña Lou Aguilar Flores, 35, at the circus late Thursday, December 22, in Aurora town. The woman, who worked as a "controller" at the circus, was watching a betting game when she was shot several times in the head.
"The suspect, a resident of Pagadian City, was caught and beaten by the bystanders. He sustained head injury and was declared dead on arrival at around 9:40 PM by the attending physician," said Maj. Shellamie Chang, the regional police spokeswoman.
She said policemen who rushed to the scene recovered Bundas' .45-caliber pistol that he used in shooting the woman. "Initial investigation revealed that the victim was sitting and watching a three ball game, and the suspect suddenly appeared from behind and shot the victim hitting at the back of her head," the spokeswoman said.
The motive of the shooting is still unknown, but Chang said the police were investigating the murder. (Al Jacinto)
