BTA Committee on Public Order and Safety addresses crimes

COTABATO CITY - The Bangsamoro Parliament’s Committee on Public Order and Safety (CPOS) conducted a parliamentary investigation into the recent killings and alarming security situation in Maguindanao and the BARMM Special Geographic Area.

Member of the Parliament Mohammad Kelie Antao, who presided over the hearing, said that the committee seeks to identify the root cause of the killings in order to prevent them from occurring again and to strengthen public order and safety in the region.

Among the invited resource persons were members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, local chief executives, the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission, and Minister of Public Order and Safety MP Hussein Munoz.

The majority of the killings in Pikit and Maguindanao, according to Antao, were caused by rido or clan wars, and that they will work to address the issues.

The CPOS will hold another round of committee hearings with barangay captains, local prosecutors, and judges to also hear their input. The hearing held by the committee was prompted by the resolution adopted by the Parliament. (LTAIS-Public Information, Publication, and Media Relations Division)
