CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Five people were killed and five others wounded after a truck collided head on with a provincial bus in Misamis Oriental province in southern Philippines.
The Rural Transit (Mindanao), Inc. (RTMI) confirmed Saturday that its bus was involved in the mishap which occurred around 3.20 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in KM 34 in the town of Gitagum. It said both drivers and three passengers were killed in the accident.
"Our bus was traveling from Cagayan de Oro City to Pagadian City when a six-wheeler fish carrier from the opposite direction swerved left on a curve road, encroached on our lane, and collided head-on against our bus. This incident has been recorded in the bus’ CCTV, where it showed that our driver was not at fault. This collision caused major damage to both vehicles, as well as injuries to five people, including the conductor, who were brought to Iligan City Hospital, CDO Provincial Hospital, and Polymedic Hospital for treatments," RTMI said.
"RTMI would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families of the five deceased, one of which was the driver of our bus, the driver of the six-wheeler truck and the three who are passengers of our bus. The management is making sure that all the needs of the passengers and driver of our bus who were injured and deceased are taken cared of while the owner of the six-wheeler fish carrier is being contacted," it added.
Despite the accident, RTMI said it guarantees the riding public that it is taking all the appropriate steps to ensure that safety of its passengers. "IT is always our top-most priority," the bus firm said. (Mindanao Examiner)
