CEBU - Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma urged candidates in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections set in October to exemplify honesty in serving the community, noting that it is important that each candidate has enough reflection and examines himself to be ready to serve the interest of the majority of the constituents.
“For people who have the
sincere desire to serve, I would encourage, Go on! Tell the world you want to
serve. And be truly sincere once elected,” Palma said in a recent interview
with Church-run Radio Veritas.
He also reminded the
people to carefully choose the future leaders of each barangay, especially
since this is the main response to the needs of the small community. “Be
serious about the election, we really discern and pray over and select those we
think can give really honest, sincere, and effective service to the community,”
he said.
The Commission on
Elections set the filing of candidacy for the poll aspirants on August 28 to
September 2. The campaign period will be from October 19-28; and the election
day on October 30. The filing of the Statements of Contribution and
Expenditures is on November 29.
