DPWH eyes road projects in Sulu


SULU – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is eyeing the construction of diversion roads and rehabilitation of the Sulu Circumferential Road with Gov. Sakur Tan saying the projects will have a huge impact on the local economy as it will hasten the movement of goods in the province.

Tan met with DPWH officials here recently and discussed the projects. Among those present during the meeting were (Technical) Lilibeth Rico, project manager and team leader; Zaldy Lastrollo, deputy project manager; (Environmental) Evelyn Buenaventura, environmental specialist; (Social Development and Resettlement) Paulo Tiangco, resettlement specialist; and (Urban Renewal Development Plan) John Gilbert Gopez, environmental specialist. 

The projects include (SP7) the construction of a 4.659-km diversion roads trom Gandasul Road Mauboh, Patilkul to Umbul Dua Road in Indanan town. The diversion roads are made up of a 1,545-meter offshore viaduct and 3,114-meter approach roads. 

The approach road will have a bike lane on both sides. The viaduct is intended to divert traffic away from the central business district of Jolo, the capital town of Sulu. It will also have a 4-lane offshore viaduct with streetlights and is expected to ease and reduce travel time between Patikul and Indanan towns. 

While the (SP8) is a four lane, 167-km (with exceptions) construction/improvement and rehabilitation of the Sulu Circumferential Road. (Mindanao Examiner)
