COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Parliament’s Social Services and Development Committee started amending Parliament Bill No. 32, or the Rights of Internally Displaced Persons of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Act.
The
PB No. 32, filed by the Government of the Day, is under scrutiny at committee
level for its potential to provide comprehensive protection and assistance to
Bangsamoro people displaced within and outside the BARMM, including
non-resident IDPs displaced within the region.
Deputy Floor Leader and MSSD Minister Atty. Raissa Jajurie emphasized the necessity of such legislation for its proposed measures to prevent displacement and facilitate the return, local integration, or settlement of IDPs into the community.
The
bill also proposes precautionary measures to prevent future displacements,
recognizing the complex nature of displacement issues within the region.
If
PB No. 32 passes into law, the Bangsamoro Government, through its ministries,
agencies, offices, and constituent local governments, will be responsible for
protecting IDPs against displacement, during displacement, and seeking durable
solutions to their displacement. (LTAIS-Public Information, Publication, and
