COTABATO CITY - The Bangsamoro Parliament's Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform Committee has approved three resolutions to promote various agricultural development and land management sectors in the Bangsamoro region.
One of these is a resolution urging the strict
implementation of Republic Act No. 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act, and
advocating for stray animal adoption programs in the Bangsamoro region.
To increase economic opportunities and promote
cultural sensitivity, the committee also approved a resolution encouraging the
BARMM's Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform, Trade
Investment and Tourism, and Science and Technology to strengthen the
institutionalization of halal food industry development in their regular
programs and projects.
The committee addressed concerns over land rights
by passing a resolution directing the appropriate committee to investigate the
alleged encroachment of private lands committed by Matling Industrial and
Corporation.
In addition to these resolutions, the committee
agreed to initiate preparatory steps for Parliament Bill No. 42, or the
Bangsamoro Irrigation Act of 2022, including conducting focus group
discussions, learning sessions, and public consultations involving relevant
agencies and stakeholders.
The proposed measure aims to strengthen the
region's irrigation infrastructure, a crucial component for sustainable
agricultural development. (LTAIS-Public Information, Publication, and Media
