Bangsamoro legislators proposed establishment of museum

COTABATO CITY — In order to promote a deeper understanding of the Bangsamoro’s journey towards autonomy, a proposed measure advocates for the establishment of a museum.

The museum will serve as a vital educational tool, providing a platform to showcase artifacts, documents, and narratives chronicling the struggles, triumphs, and aspirations of the Bangsamoro people.

Under Parliament Bill No. 299, or the Bangsamoro Autonomy and Heritage Museum Act of 2024, the scope and coverage of the museum are exclusively on artifacts, documents, and narratives related to the Bangsamoro struggles for autonomy.

These include historical books, original copies of significant agreements and laws, photo galleries of key personalities and locations, exhibits of unserviceable firearms used in the struggle, and lists of individuals who fought and sacrificed for self-determination.

The museum will be continuously guarded by personnel donning the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) tiger uniform, ensuring the safety and security of its contents.

The bill allocates initial funding of P10 million to support the museum’s establishment, with further funding to be included in the annual General Appropriation Act of the Bangsamoro under the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH).

The main authors of the bill are MPs Jamel B. Macacua and Eddie M. Alih.

It is co-authored by MPs Susana S. Anayatin, Abdulaziz M. Amenoden, Ali Montaha D. Babao, Suharto S. Esmael, Rasul E. Ismael, Hamid U. Malik, Atty. Lanang T. Ali Jr., Engr. Don Mustapha A.
