Introduced by Members of Parliament Jamel B. Macacua and Eddie M. Alih, Parliament Bill No. 300 or the Physical Fitness Act of 2024, seeks to prioritize the health of those working within the region.
Citing the demanding nature of work and the challenges it poses to the overall health of employees, Macacua and Alih emphasized the need for solutions.
They noted that many employees struggle to find time for physical conditioning due to the demanding minimum of 40 work hours per week, leading to fatigue and potential health issues.
“It is necessary to establish programs that not only raise awareness about mental health issues but also provide solutions to this longstanding problem,” the primary authors said.
Under the proposed legislation, all ministries, offices, and agencies within the Bangsamoro region would be mandated to conduct weekly physical fitness activities (PFA) for their employees.
These activities, lasting a minimum of thirty minutes, are scheduled for Friday afternoons, strategically chosen to maximize participation without compromising service delivery.
The legislation emphasizes flexibility, allowing ministries, offices, and agencies to tailor their physical conditioning programs to suit their operational needs. A skeleton workforce will remain available during these sessions to ensure uninterrupted service provision.
